Who and Where Am I?

So I've finally created a blog. I've never been very bloggy, but I thought it would be a good way to share the musings of a gringa living in Spain, including some of my short stories and translations. First, a year-in-review to get you up to speed...

This year I learned a lot about love and nature and human nature... I met a group of people that shared my enthusiasm for the outdoors and learned more about hiking, climbing and all kinds of crunchy survival techniques. Above is a pic of my buddy Duna and I celebrating at the top of las Torres de la Pedriza in Madrid.

2007 was a big year for "old." My baby sis turned 16 and I got to crash her sweet 16 party, which was, umm... sweet. We have the same birthday 12 years apart, which means I'm, umm... old. Still, it was fun to party like it's your birthday with 50cent and a bunch of teenagers.

This year I was really inspired to start riding a bike again. I hadn't been on one since about 12 years ago when a friend of mine had a traumatic mountain biking accident in Colorado. I guess all I needed to get over my fear was to see 300 naked people riding bikes through the middle of Madrid...

Since then, I've been riding my bad-ass Otero Camino every day as my major form of transportation in Madrid. Here's a shot of me taking a break from Correcaminos (aka Roadrunner) in the woods in Burgos.

Next was a visit to my friend "Euro-Emmets" in Amsterdam. I love this city. Bikes and pedestrians overrun cars and the overstimuli of weird people and languages leaves "nee" a dull moment. By chance it happened to be Gay Pride Weekend and I was lucky enough to catch the hottest and wettest gay parade on the planet, thanks to my friend's party boat. Let op!

Greece was by far my favorite highlight of the year (see cachica-dance-party-beach-fight). Sleeping next to a waterfall up on a mountain under the starriest sky, zipping around the island on a scooter hugging the pristine shoreline, drinking way too much tsipouro and eating way too much goat, tanning my sun-kissed butt to the Greek Gods... This is my paradise.
